Cry, cry, cry…

October 31st, 2005 by babycryanEmma went to her first halloween party. So far, she has worn 3 costumes. She was a duck when she went trick or treating in downtown Maynard with Kathleen. She was a skeleton at Laura and Fred’s party, but she changed into her cat outfit, since the skeleton was a little too warm. Emma loves Halloween, and she hasn’t even tried candy yet.

Emma had a very busy weekend. Saturday morning we visited all the people at the Acme Theater. I was very relieved that she slept through the sound of power tools. We went back home and her Grandma and Aunt Mary Beth came to visit. Then the landlord came with people to deliver our new fridge. Sunday, Deb came to visit, and we went pumpkin picking. The only thing we picked were two very strange looking gourds, but we had lots of fun.
Emma is just Miss Popularity. Too bad she sleeps through all the excitement.
In this picture, it looks like Marc is sleeping while standing up. After the nights we’ve had with Emma, it is entirely possible.
soooooooo tired….
October 21st, 2005 by babycryan
I should have know when she was in my belly, kicking late at night, that I was going to have a nocturnal baby. Things are looking up though, she went 6 whole hours without eating last night. She only slept for 3 of those hours, but I think it still counts as progress. She woke us up at 2:45 am, I fed her, then we took turns doing laps of the house, trying to get her back to sleep. We ending up with the 4 of us (Earl too) sleeping on the couch watching the Muppet Show. She’s asleep now, so I have to go take a nap while there’s still time!
Beware of Uncle Earl!

This is a candidate for www.mycathatesyou.com . Earl is adjusting to Emma. He’s trying to maintain his dominance over her, but she doesn’t care, and that makes Earl mad. He’s destroyed two pacifiers already, and he is constantly hunting for more. There’s only one left, until the rest arrive in the mail.
About 5 minutes after we arrived home from the hospital, he stole the breast shield ( a plastic nipple I use to feed the baby). Luckily no damage was done. He still keeps jumping in the crib, just not when she’s in it. (thank goodness!)
Emma is doing good. Today is our first day without Dad, but we’re surviving. (We’re watching Family Guy and eating in bed.) We’re starting to get better at breast feeding. It would be SO EASY to give her formula, but I must persevere. (Breast milk is just so good for her.) I keep thinking of the disturbing breastfeeding ads that were banned from network TV. You can see them here: http://www.adcouncil.org/campaigns/breastfeeding/ .
They’re kinda funny, but at the same time wicked sick. (Click on Log Rolling and Mechanical Bull)
Here’s a picture from her first walk. She found a leaf! Is she laughing, crying? Who knows!
Happy to be home!
October 12th, 2005 by babycryanHere is Emma and Mom the day after she was born,
and her first picture, a few minutes after being born. You can really see a difference a day makes. She is doing great. We have mastered the art of breastfeeding. She put on 3 Oz. in 2 days. The Dr. said it would have been good if she put on 1 Oz, so 3 is incredible. She is sleeping a lot, and eating a lot, and that’s about all. She’s a very quiet baby, at least for now. She went for her first walk last night. Dad carried her in the snugli, and we headed out to get chinese food. Today we took our first walk in the stroller, and went to CVS. For the record, when you have a baby, you spend a LOT of money at CVS. Well, it’s time to sneak in a nap before the next feeding. Stay tuned for more pictures, and look for pictures in my photo album in my profile.
It’s a Girl!!!!!
October 10th, 2005 by babycryanCan’t be born on a holiday…
October 6th, 2005 by babycryanSo the baby is coming no later than 39 hours from now. Apparently they changed their minds and can’t book an induction on a Holiday, so I’m getting induced Saturday at 7am. I really really really hope she decides to come out on her own before then.
Today she slept through the non stress test. She just wouldn’t wake up long enough to move around and get her heart beat all worked up. I tried moving, eating popsicles and an apple and she just wouldn’t wake up. They sent me to ultra sound, since she wasn’t testing well upstairs, and she passed the ultra sound with flying colors in about 5 minutes. I then went back upstairs and they hooked me back up to the monitor, and she was asleep again.
They gave me the option of getting induced right there and then, and I thought about it, but I really would like spontaneous labor. Otherwise hypnobirthing will be really difficult.
So keep your fingers crossed that she’ll decide to come out on her own.
